N400m Entered Olisa Metuh's Account On Jonathan’s Order
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, on Monday
opened his defence before a Federal High Court in Abuja, where he is
being prosecuted for money laundering and charges bordering on the N400m
he received from the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Metuh’s first witness, Mr. Ike Abonyi, who described himself as a journalist and a public relations consultant, said in his testimony that the N400m was released to the PDP spokesperson by the ONSA in 2014 on the instruction of the then President, Goodluck Jonathan.

T.B Joshua denies owning any company in Panama
Popular Lagos pastor, T.B Joshua has denied media reports that the
recently released Panama reports indicted him as one of the few
Nigerians that operate a company in Panama. Yesterday, Premium Times
broke the news on their website that Joshua and his wife, Evelyn, owned
Chillon Consultancy Limited, a company incorporated on June 20, 2006 at
the British Virgin Island.

Death of suspected armed robber/recovery of arms & ammunition
On April 11th, 2016 at about 2.30pm, 3 armed hoodlums on motorcycle allegedly entered
Matrix Stores, Abule-Ado, Satellite and robbed the owner of phones.
However, a patrol team attached to Satellite Div., was quickly mobilized

Full list of 30 players invited to camp by Samson Siasia for Rio Olympics
Samson Siasia has invited 30 players to camp for the 2016 Olympics that
will take place in Rio, Brazil this summer. A statement released by the
NFF said the invited players are expected to arrive at the Starview
Hotel in Abuja on Tuesday with their passports, and that training would commence on Wednesday.

Tompolo sues FG over his N45.9billion trial
Former Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemulopo, alias Tompolo
who has been declared wanted by the EFCC over his involvement in a
N45.9 billion scam at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety
Agency NIMASA, has dragged the Federal government before a Federal High
Court in Lagos asking that the fraud charges leveled against him be
dropped.
In the court paper filed by his counsel, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa yesterday April 11th, Tompolo is seeking for the nullification of sections 221 and 306 Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015 (ACJA), which prevents parties in a criminal trial from seeking a stay of proceedings.

Rivers govt alleges plot to arrest PDP chieftains
Rivers State Government has raised alarm of an alleged plot
to arrest chieftains of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state on trumped
up charges. The government, in a statement, yesterday, by the state
Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr Austin Tams-George,
condemned the alleged move, urging Rivers people to remain calm.
He said: “It has come to the attention of the Rivers State
Government that some faceless individuals and groups in the state, sponsored by
the All Progressives Congress, APC, have written petitions to security
agencies, making frivolous allegations against chieftains of PDP and top
government functionaries in Rivers State. “The aim of these petitions is to
instigate another round of politically-motivated arrests and harassment of
innocent individuals. It is also part of a plan to conduct unlawful raids on
the homes of government officials and leaders of the PDP in Rivers State.

Lagos begins prosecution of tax defaulters
The Lagos State Government on Monday said its Rapid Tax
Prosecution Unit had begun prosecution of recalcitrant tax payers. This is
contained in a statement by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for
Justice, Mr Adeniji Kazeem.
Kazeem said that the Unit had filed all the necessary
information at the State High Court for the arraignment of 28 tax defaulters. He
said the defaulers were referred by the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service
(LIRS) and prosecution had begun in earnest.
According to him, their offences range from failure to
furnish and file tax return to failure to pay personal tax to the state. He
said that the offences violated the Personal Income Tax Act 2004 as amended and
the Lagos State Revenue Administration law.

I lost my mother-in-law because there was no pedestrian bridge – Desmond Elliot
Popular Nollywood actor and member of the Lagos State House
of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, on Monday told his colleagues at the Assembly that
he lost his mother-in-law because there were no pedestrian bridges across an
expressway in Lagos.
He did not mention the particular expressway or when the
incident occurred, but said his mother-in-law was hit while she was trying to
cross the expressway on her return from the Daleko market in the Mushin area of
Lagos where she had gone to buy foodstuff. Elliot was arguing in favour of a motion to call on the
Federal Government to provide a pedestrian bridge at Toyota Bus Stop along
Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

Lawmakers disagree over details as ministry defends Amaechi
A fresh crisis of confidence has erupted in the Senate and
the House of Representatives, with some members alleging that details of the
budget were not made available to them before the document was sent to
President Muhammadu Buhari.
Besides, the acrimony over the omission of some projects
approved by the various committees of the two chambers is growing. Some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) yesterday
joined the fray. They submitted evidence that some projects, including the
Calabar-Lagos rail line, were yanked off the document – the guide to the
government’s actions for the year.
The Ministry of Transportation insisted that the rail line
project was in the budget and defended Minister Rotimi Amaechi.

Army Smashes Abia Kidnap Gang, One Suspect Commits Suicide
The Nigerian Army has smashed a suspected notorious kidnappers gang that has been
terrorising Abia State.One of the suspects allegedly committed suicide while
another was arrested by the Nigerian Army.
The suspect believed to be the leader of the four-man gang
that allegedly shot and abducted a victim at Ohafia, and took him to Nkporo
town in Ohafia Local Government Area where they were demanding for ransom
before residents made a distress call to the Army.

Benue varsity students shut down Makurdi-Gboko highway over tuition hike
Protesting students of the Benue State University, BSU,
yesterday trooped into the streets, crippling business activities and
barricading the ever-busy Makurdi-Gboko federal highway over recent hike in
tuition by the school’s management, leaving several travellers and road users
stranded for over four hours.

Doctors
at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital ( LUTH) Idi-Araba, Lagos have
been accused of causing the death of Ngozi Udebu, a 46 years old
married woman and teacher at St. Finbarrs college Yaba on March 28th.
Speaking to the Nation, husband of the deceased who is an estate
developer, Ausbet Udebu, said professional misconduct by the doctor's
led to the death of his wife on Easter Monday.
According to him, the physician diagnosed and treated his late wife of ulcer but the autopsy showed that she died of Asphyxia which is the loss of consciousness due to the body’s inability to deliver oxygen to its tissues.
